What it does
NTB supplies photographs and video for news, communication and creative work. Its image service combines Norwegian and international history, contemporary coverage and illustrative stock from its own production and partners.
For a historical feature, NTB’s archive includes Norwegian post-war politics, business, sport, culture and everyday life. Research can begin in the digital archive or continue by appointment at its physical photo archive on Holbergs terrasse in Oslo.
The Illustrasjonsbilder og -videoer section serves marketing, communications and annual reports. It offers individual purchases, image packages and subscriptions, with customer service handling purchase enquiries. This is the useful starting point for a campaign needing people in everyday settings.
NTB’s rights guidance places responsibility for the intended use and any further permissions on the buyer. It specifically highlights the rights of people depicted in commercial contexts, so a news-image licence should not be assumed to cover a promotional use.
Strengths
- Historical research can extend from the digital catalogue to an appointment at the physical archive.
- Creative imagery has a dedicated route with individual and volume-purchase options.
Watch out for
- Commercial use of recognizable people may require permissions beyond the image licence.
Best for
- Editors and communicators sourcing Norwegian photographs and footage
