What it does
nTop is engineering software for implicit geometry, lattices and reusable parametric workflows. Commercial access uses a renewable licence and a user account. The interactive application runs on supported Windows 11 editions, while eligible students, educators and academic researchers can apply for a separate non-commercial version.
nTop represents shapes mathematically and organizes design steps in reusable notebooks. This supports families of parts driven by parameters, including lattices and other geometry that can become cumbersome in a conventional surface-based model. The platform provides CAD and mesh handoffs for downstream design and manufacturing tools.
Its CAD export guide makes part complexity a practical decision. For a relatively simple shell or coarse structure, create and refine a mesh, check for mesh errors, then use Quadrangulate Mesh. An optional Refine Mesh step can preserve finer features in the quad mesh. Next, CAD Body from Quad Mesh produces a CAD body, and Export Part writes the chosen STEP or Parasolid file. The separate CAD Body from Implicit Body block is labelled Beta and handles another conversion route; it is not a guarantee that every dense lattice will be useful in a conventional CAD system.
The interactive program requires 64-bit Windows 11 Enterprise, Professional or Education. Published minimum hardware includes 64 GB RAM and an NVIDIA Volta-or-newer graphics card with at least 8 GB video memory. The separate headless nTop Automate product also supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.9.
Commercial term and fees are set in the order, with the standard agreement defaulting to a renewable one-year term unless otherwise specified. Named licences allow three registered devices with one active session. The educational licence is for eligible personal, non-commercial work and excludes funded research under its agreement. A requested demonstration begins with a discussion of the project's technical needs.
Strengths
- Reusable notebooks keep parameter-driven modelling steps together.
- The documented CAD handoff includes mesh refinement and STEP or Parasolid output.
- Interactive design and headless automation have separately documented operating-system support.
Watch out for
- The interactive application needs substantial RAM and a supported NVIDIA GPU.
- Dense implicit geometry can be unsuitable for detailed conversion into traditional CAD.
- The educational licence excludes commercial work and funded research.
Best for
- Engineering teams creating parameter-driven lattices and complex parts
- Designers preparing implicit geometry for CAD and manufacturing workflows
