What it does
OBIS provides marine biodiversity datasets, a map interface, data policy and technical documentation.
Search by taxon or area, then inspect a dataset or open a subset in the Mapper. The manual documents taxonomic, geographic, time and data-quality filters with CSV layer downloads. Source Darwin Core Archives keep tables separate; Mapper downloads flatten occurrence and event data and omit absence records. Keep the downloaded query and citations with an extract.
Strengths
- Taxonomic, geographic, time and quality filters
- Documented distinction between source archives and Mapper downloads
Best for
- Extracting marine biodiversity occurrence records with provenance
