What it does
OpenSCAP is an open-source ecosystem for assessing and managing system configuration using SCAP-based security policies and baselines.
OpenSCAP makes the selected policy part of the assessment. Its portal describes choosing and adjusting a baseline before evaluating a system, rather than applying one universal definition of secure configuration. Choose a policy that fits the operating system and workload, then document exceptions. Repeatable assessment helps track configuration drift, but a report still needs interpretation and a remediation owner.
Strengths
- Explicit policy-based configuration assessment
Best for
- Administrators and auditors managing system baselines
