What it does
OpenIKED implements IKEv2 mutual authentication and IPsec security-association management, developed in OpenBSD with portable releases.
OpenIKED is the IKEv2 part of an administrator-operated IPsec deployment. Its official page describes negotiating and maintaining security policies and associations between peers and publishes a portable release route. The deliberate protocol limit is useful: it does not implement IKEv1, so clients requiring that older protocol need another implementation. Choose it when the required authentication and policy design fits IKEv2, rather than as a source of consumer browsing exits.
Strengths
- Focused IKEv2 implementation
- Portable releases alongside OpenBSD development
Watch out for
- Does not implement IKEv1
Best for
- Administrators building a standards-based IKEv2/IPsec deployment
