What it does
OpenSpeedTest measures connection throughput in a browser and offers software for deploying a dedicated speed-test server.
Run the OpenSpeedTest server on one device, then open its displayed URL from a second device’s browser to measure that path. A local server targets LAN or Wi-Fi behavior; a remote server includes the route to that infrastructure. Server hardware, browser performance and connection method still affect the reading. The provider’s embed widget uses OpenSpeedTest servers. Its separate self-hosted widget sends results to a provider-managed database and dashboard, while downloadable server applications and source support your own deployment. The software is described as free and open source, with Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and Docker server routes.
