What it does
Organic Maps is a free offline map and GPS-navigation app using OpenStreetMap data. It supports walking, cycling and driving directions, downloaded-map searches, place bookmarks and imported or exported route files.
Download the relevant region before leaving a reliable connection. Search and turn-by-turn guidance then work with the maps held on the device, useful when a border crossing or a rural stay makes mobile data inconvenient. Metro maps and place information add context for city visits as well as road travel.
Bookmarks can keep accommodation and other important places together. Import and export support includes KML, KMZ, GPX and GeoJSON, allowing an existing set of places or a route to accompany the trip. The app also displays terrain information and selected Wikipedia articles. It is a community-developed project with free core access and no required registration according to its site. Map content comes from OpenStreetMap, so the individual route and local conditions still deserve ordinary attention.
