What it does
Osmosis is a Cosmos exchange and liquidity hub that connects assets across chains. Its trading screen offers Buy, Sell and Swap modes, with route, fee and price-impact previews. Wallet funding and token swaps are separate steps.
Buy uses a chosen stablecoin balance to purchase an asset. Sell moves an asset into a selected stablecoin, while Swap exposes both the paying and receiving assets. These modes help visitors express the same exchange task in the way that matches their starting balance.
Enter an amount and inspect the rate, price impact, fees and route. The next window shows the order type, slippage tolerance, Receive at least and the additional network fee. Confirming there leads to wallet approval, followed by a completion notification. An expired quote, low liquidity or an asset rate limit can prevent execution.
Funds on another Cosmos chain need to arrive first. Connect the wallet to Osmosis, then open Portfolio and choose Deposit beside the asset. Select its origin chain and amount, review the transfer and follow the IBC progress indicator. A token balance on its home chain is not yet a spendable balance on Osmosis.
Swap costs include a pool spread and protocol taker charge already reflected in the output quote. Network gas is additional and changes with congestion. Accepted alternative fee tokens can pay gas, so holding OSMO is not the only possible route; the chosen token must be on the network fee list.
Developers have public data endpoints and route-building guides, while liquidity providers have separate concentrated-pool workflows.
