What it does

OVHcloud Public Cloud Compute Instances are virtual machines for applications, websites, development environments, and other server workloads. Select an instance family and size, region or availability-zone layout, OS image, storage, and public or private networking. Manage instances through the OVHcloud Control Panel or Horizon, API endpoints, CLI, and Terraform; billing can be hourly or monthly, with optional Savings Plans commitments.

The service provides a direct VM workflow with several instance families and image choices, plus multiple management interfaces for automation. Compute usage is counted by the second after an initial one-minute minimum. A stopped instance continues to be billed until it is deleted, while storage has its own billing units. Savings Plans offer a commitment-based alternative for predictable usage.

Strengths

  • Choose from instance families and sizes, OS images, single- or multi-zone deployment, and networking options.
  • Control Panel, Horizon, API, CLI, and Terraform are documented management paths.
  • Hourly billing is metered by the second after the first minute; Savings Plans can lower costs for committed use.

Watch out for

  • A stopped or paused instance is not deleted, so instance billing continues.
  • Storage resources have their own billing units and must be considered separately from compute.

Best for

  • Teams that want configurable virtual machines and a choice of hourly, monthly, or committed billing.
  • Developers provisioning public-cloud servers through a portal, API, CLI, or Terraform.
