What it does
Owncast is open-source software for hosting a live video stream with built-in chat and a custom viewing page.
Owncast puts the viewing destination under your control. Send a feed using standard streaming protocols, serve it from your own domain and adjust the page to match the event or community. Built-in chat includes moderation, custom emotes and user authentication, so audience conversation does not require a separate hosted chat service.
The software has no forced ads, subscription charge or imposed viewer limit. Running the server still makes hosting capacity and operation your responsibility. ActivityPub integration also lets people on the fediverse follow the stream.
