What it does

PaletteMaker previews colour schemes on prepared graphic-design examples. Browse or build a palette of two to five colours, edit individual swatches and export it for Procreate, Adobe applications, images or code. Its current features are free.

Choose a scheme from the side panel and it appears in the main palette. Shuffle the colours, change one swatch or remove a cell while comparing the prepared layouts. The category selector includes web and mobile interfaces, branding, illustration, typography, posters and patterns.

For a palette built around a particular accent, the guide starts by clearing the other cells and viewing that colour in the branding grid. Add supporting colours and neutrals while watching how they sit against one another. A three-colour layout can also be previewed with the guide’s suggested 60/30/10 proportions.

Exports include Procreate palettes, Adobe ASE swatches, an image and code. PaletteMaker currently handles two-, three-, four- and five-colour palettes. The prepared artwork provides visual context for a direction; the export is the palette.

Strengths

  • Design examples show colour relationships at different sizes and proportions.
  • Individual swatches can be changed or removed without starting over.

Watch out for

  • Palette sizes are limited to the supported two-to-five-colour arrangements.

Best for

  • Designers comparing a colour scheme across several graphic-design formats.
