What it does
Penpot is an open-source product design platform with interactive prototypes, reusable components, design tokens and CSS Grid and Flex layouts. Teams can use its hosted service or self-host it. The hosted Professional plan is free, while paid tiers add storage, history and organization controls.
Layout rules that carry through to development
Penpot uses Grid and Flex layouts, so a responsive design can express how its parts should resize and wrap. Components, shared libraries and design tokens hold reusable interface rules. Developers can inspect the resulting CSS, HTML, SVG and JSON instead of translating only from a picture.
Hosted plans or your own server
| Hosted plan | Published price in USD | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Professional | $0 | Core design and collaboration tools |
| Unlimited | $7 per editor/month, capped at $175/month | More space and longer history |
| Enterprise | $25 per member/month | Team permissions and centralized administration |
| Private Server | $50,000/year | Dedicated infrastructure |
The free plan still has storage and team allowances; the absence of a file-count limit does not mean unlimited storage. Select Sign up for free for the hosted editor, or Self-host install for a deployment your team operates. The self-hosted route requires server setup and maintenance.
