What it does
pgloader loads structured files and supported databases into PostgreSQL. It provides on-the-fly transformations, field projections, schema discovery, casting rules, and reject logs.
Load files or migrate a supported database into PostgreSQL, applying projections, casts and transformations through the COPY protocol. File loads default to continuing past rejected rows and saving reject data/logs; database migrations default to stopping on error. Database mode also defaults to target DROP followed by CREATE, so repeatability includes replacement of target objects. Data-only routes can temporarily remove and recreate indexes/constraints. Casting rules can change values, including rewriting MySQL zero dates to NULL. Commands can run SQL before/after loading, and archives/HTTP sources add extraction or network steps.
Strengths
- Combines schema discovery, casting rules, and inspectable rejected-row handling.
Best for
- Repeatable file and database migration into PostgreSQL
