What it does
PhDino combines engineering calculators with changing schematics, unit selection and explanations of formulas and assumptions.
PhDino pairs engineering calculators with diagrams, per-field units and formula guides. Kept results can go into a Notebook for PDF export. Its beam tool takes support type, span, uniform load, Young's modulus and section inertia, returning maximum deflection, slope, moment and a span-to-deflection ratio.
The current beam guide explains conversion of feet, lb/ft and ksi to consistent internal units and now gives the cantilever moment as wL²/2. It assumes a uniform load across the full span and linear-elastic behavior. Point or partial loads need another model, and a deflection result does not complete the separate strength or governing-code checks. The free, no-account site describes its tools as educational and screening resources; its own verification statements are not independent qualification by this collection.
Strengths
- Live schematics accompany calculation inputs
- Guides explain formulas and assumptions
Watch out for
- Simplified models need their stated scope respected
Best for
