What it does

Photopea is a browser editor for layered raster artwork, vector graphics, masks and PSD documents. Free access includes advertising; a paid Premium account removes it.

Paint texture without losing the edge

Import an ABR brush through File > Open, choose its tip and size, then paint on a separate layer. Pattern tips use a raster image, so enlarging a small tip too far produces visible pixels. Pressure-sensitive devices can control brush size or opacity.

Add a raster or vector mask to hide unwanted areas without deleting the artwork. Select the mask thumbnail before correcting visibility; selecting the main thumbnail edits the layer instead. Double-click the mask to adjust Density or Feather without changing its underlying content.

A layer can have one raster mask and one vector mask. Their chain controls let the mask and artwork move together or independently.

Keep an editable copy

File > Save as PSD preserves the document structure. Use Export As for a delivery PNG, JPG or other supported format, with its own output dimensions. Premium requires login, while account settings can be synchronised across devices.

Strengths

  • Mask properties adjust visibility without changing the source artwork.
  • Imported ABR brushes and pressure controls support painted textures.

Watch out for

  • Enlarged raster brush tips can become pixelated.
  • Free access includes advertising.

Best for

  • Illustrated collages in a browser
  • PSD artwork combining paint and vector elements
