What it does
MusicBrainz Picard identifies and tags music using MusicBrainz metadata and AcoustID fingerprints.
Add local audio files, cluster them into an album and use Lookup for a release match. Scan provides an AcoustID fingerprint route when tags are missing; browser lookup can help when neither finds the right edition.
Compare the release’s track count and the original/new metadata before saving. Correct a misplaced track by dragging it to the right match, then Save the selected album. Picard can rename files through scripts, but its quick-start guide cautions against treating it as a mass single-track fixer.
Strengths
- Audio fingerprint identification
- Scriptable file naming
Watch out for
- Automatic matches need checking against the actual release and track order.
