What it does
Spritewright Palette Extractor reads a sprite or image and returns exact colours or a reduced palette. It exports editor palettes, code values and a PNG swatch strip.
Use Exact colours to list every distinct colour in a sprite. Reduce to applies median-cut quantisation when a photograph or anti-aliased image needs fewer colours. Set the alpha cutoff to exclude nearly transparent pixels, or lower it to zero when their hidden RGB values matter.
Drop, paste or select a PNG, GIF, JPG, WebP or BMP, then choose the mode and sort the result. Export GPL for a palette editor, a Lospec HEX list, CSS variables, JSON or a PNG strip. In Aseprite, open the palette menu, choose Load Palette and select the GPL file.
The browser extractor is free without an account and can work offline after loading. Separate Aseprite extensions cover in-editor export and palette auditing; their purchase or licence terms do not change access to this browser tool.
Strengths
- Exact and reduced extraction address different image types.
- The alpha cutoff excludes colours hidden in transparent pixels.
- Exports cover editor, code and image workflows.
Watch out for
- Reduced extraction replaces the full set with a quantised palette.
Best for
- Recovering the working palette from a sprite or tileset
