What it does
Plex combines free movies and live channels with discovery and watchlist features. It also offers a personal media server, which has different benefits from the free streaming catalogue.
For the supplied movie catalogue, begin in the free Movies & TV or Live TV sections. Creating a free account adds a watchlist and personalisation. Plex explicitly says a Plex Pass does not remove ads from Plex-provided films or unlock extra titles there; that paid product primarily extends personal-media use.
The on-demand guide separately lists movie rentals for the US and Canada. It also explains how a Plex Home administrator can disable the supplied Movies & Shows source for managed users, useful when a family wants personal media without exposing that catalogue.
Strengths
- Free viewing and cross-service watchlist tools sit in one interface.
- The service clearly distinguishes personal media features from supplied streaming.
Watch out for
- Plex Pass does not remove ads from Plex-provided content.
- The documented movie-rental offer is limited to the US and Canada.
