What it does
Polycam captures objects and spaces through phone and browser workflows. It provides photogrammetry, Gaussian splats, floor plans, shared capture libraries and downloadable models.
Object capture uses photographs from different angles and cloud processing. Captures can be kept in a library and shared for comments or annotations. Space Mode has a separate hardware boundary: it requires a compatible iOS device, even though the wider service supports iOS, Android and web browsers.
To export, open Library, select the capture and inspect it in the 3D viewer. Choose Download on the web or the downward arrow in the app, select a format and adjust its settings, then choose Export. The file is saved to the device or computer.
Those settings are global across captures. Changing units, point-cloud density or an up-axis affects later exports too. Meshes and point clouds offer Y-up or Z-up; splats also offer Y-down. The 360 mesh control chooses Capsule or Sphere. This is useful when an imported result appears sideways, but the selected capture type and plan still determine available formats.
| Plan | Output access or price |
|---|---|
| Free | GLTF mesh output; the Object capture guide also allows watermarked images and video |
| Basic | USD 150 yearly or USD 30 monthly |
| Business | USD 400 per user yearly |
| Enterprise | USD 1,200 per user yearly, with a three-user minimum |
The standard terms allow reuse and commercialisation of models you generate, with Polycam attribution for public display. That grant does not license another user's model or remove rights in the scanned subject.
Strengths
- Export controls cover units, density and orientation before the file leaves the capture library.
- Shared captures support comments and annotations alongside visual reference.
Watch out for
- Export settings apply globally, rather than only to the current capture.
- Space Mode requires a compatible iOS device.
- Free mesh export is limited to GLTF.
Best for
- Moving captured object references into a modelling or visualisation project
- Teams discussing a shared capture with annotations
