What it does

Positype publishes retail fonts, custom type and modifications, with a catalog linking families to supported writing systems. Its Human collection includes standard, narrow and condensed designs.

Start with the writing-system chart, then follow the relevant family and script. Human supports Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Japanese, Khmer, Lao and Thai, but its Japanese offering does not extend across all three widths. The family page exposes tabular numerals, fractions and other OpenType controls, plus a glyph view. Check the needed script directly rather than relying on the automatically predicted language count.

Select retail families have OTF trials for mockups and proposals. Missing characters use placeholders of the same width, helping preserve line breaks when moving to the paid font, but ligatures and other OpenType features are disabled. A standard organisational trial covers up to five testers and excludes public-facing work.

The licensing page begins with What are you making? Desktop and Logo have perpetual terms, while web, social and packaging options can be annual or perpetual. A singular logo licence differs from broader use of the typeface. Packaging, commercial publishing and animated social content have their own categories, so include those outputs when planning a brand package.

Strengths

  • Connects writing-system coverage to individual families.
  • Provides glyph inspection and OpenType feature controls.
  • Keeps trial placeholder widths consistent with the retail characters.

Watch out for

  • Human’s Japanese support does not cover every width.
  • Trial files omit OpenType features and have a reduced character set.
  • Several brand outputs require separate licensing categories.

Best for

  • Multilingual brand systems
  • Projects needing coordinated widths and script extensions
