What it does
PostFinance provides Swiss account access through e-finance and its mobile app. Its multibanking feature combines supported third-party balances and transactions with PostFinance accounts in the income and expense overview. Adult packages have monthly fees, while eligible students can use SmartStudents free.
Bring outside accounts into the overview
Select a participating third-party bank and follow its account-approval instructions. Approved accounts appear in e-finance or the PostFinance App, with transactions included in the analysis overview. The multibanking feature itself has no additional charge.
You must be at least 18, have a PostFinance private account and e-finance login, and already have online banking at the other institution. Only participating banks can be linked. Adding the view leaves the outside account with its existing bank.
Package comparison
| Package | Monthly fee | Main distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Smart | CHF 5 | Account, PostFinance Card and digital banking |
| SmartPlus | CHF 10 | Adds an included standard credit or prepaid card and broader cash-withdrawal coverage |
| SmartStudents | CHF 0 | For people aged 18 to 30 in education or training lasting at least one year |
With Smart, third-party Swiss ATM withdrawals cost CHF 2 and withdrawals abroad CHF 5. SmartPlus removes PostFinance’s charges for those withdrawals. Both offer digital statements; the paper option adds CHF 5 monthly.
Smart’s monthly fee can be waived through a PostFinance mortgage, life insurance or at least CHF 25,000 in qualifying invested assets. Ordinary account balances and medium-term notes do not meet that investment condition.
Opening an account
The CHF private-account opening route is for Swiss residents, with youth accounts used through age 20. Start online or in the app, choose a package, scan your identity document and sign digitally. Eligible students open SmartStudents and verify their identity and education status. Customers domiciled abroad face a separate CHF 25 monthly charge per account.
