What it does

Preline UI is a free collection of prebuilt Tailwind CSS components. Its documentation covers themes, interactive plugins, framework integration and a broad range of navigation and form controls.

Preline’s setup covers the pieces needed to make copied Tailwind components work: install preline, add @tailwindcss/forms for its form controls, include the CSS variants and source path, and load the JavaScript for interactive elements.

The standard script initializes components automatically on page load. For manual control, use the non-auto entry or import a single plugin, then initialize it explicitly. The dropdown example uses new HSDropdown(...), which is useful when adding a control after the initial page load.

The free library allows unlimited projects and developers without an account. Pro and Team add the full block and template collection through a one-time purchase; Pro covers one developer and Team covers up to 15. Purchases require an account to access the files. Their hosted MCP connection for coding assistants is included only through January 1, 2027, after which it needs a subscription.

Check the licence for your output. Ordinary end-user applications can use the free library under MIT, while reusable derivatives have additional Fair Use conditions. Pro content cannot be redistributed or used to sell derivative themes and templates. General support covers account and licence questions, not debugging or implementation.

Strengths

  • Setup material explains interactive initialization as well as CSS configuration.
  • The component range includes navigation, advanced inputs and overlays.
  • Free components can be used across unlimited projects without an account.

Watch out for

  • Interactive components need the documented JavaScript initialization, beyond copied markup.
  • Reusable derivatives of the free library have extra Fair Use conditions.
  • Pro and Team exclude redistribution and technical implementation support.

Best for

  • Tailwind teams integrating reusable controls into an existing application
