What it does

PrestaShop provides catalogue, checkout and store administration with themes and modules for additional functions. Classic is a free download that needs hosting and installation; Hosted includes those services in a paid subscription. Store staff use individual accounts with assigned permissions.

PrestaShop offers two operating routes. Classic is a free download that the owner installs and hosts. Hosted supplies installation, 50 GB of hosting and support, with a fourteen-day trial. Its monthly subscription costs EUR 29 excluding VAT; the dedicated Hosted page states an annual bill of EUR 290 excluding VAT.

Hosted registration asks you to create an account and name the store. Payment details are required at signup, with charging beginning after the trial. Installation is followed by an email containing store access details. Classic leaves the server setup with the owner or their technical provider.

Choose the product type first

In PrestaShop 9, open Catalog > Products > Add new product. Select Standard, Product with combinations, Pack or Virtual. The choice determines the available stock and delivery fields. A shirt with sizes needs combinations; a downloadable guide needs the virtual-product controls.

Add the description, images, price and relevant quantities, then Save. New products start offline. Preview shows the storefront page even while it is disabled, so inspect it before making it available with the Online control and Save and publish.

Changing the type of an existing product deletes its combinations and resets stock. Decide how the item should be sold before entering a large set of variations.

Team and technical responsibilities

The initial installation creates a SuperAdmin account. Add individual employee accounts and assign permission profiles for the parts of store administration each person needs.

Themes and modules extend payment, shipping and marketing functions, with separate terms and costs where applicable. The core's OSL-3.0 licence and the AFL-3.0 licence identified for PrestaShop modules do not establish every marketplace add-on's terms. Match setup instructions to the installed version: the current Classic offer names version 9, while the Hosted page describes version 8.
