What it does
PrimeIcons is PrimeTek’s icon library for React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Solid and Lit. Current releases use PrimeUI licensing, with free Community access for eligible users and paid commercial options.
For Vue, use @primeicons/vue: each icon is a standalone component rendered as inline SVG. Select a symbol in the documentation to copy its import statement, then use the component as a tag. Size accepts pixels or another CSS length; color inherits from the parent unless set, and spin adds rotation. Individual imports help exclude unused icons.
PrimeIcons is included in PrimeUI Community. It permits eligible developers and small organizations to build commercial applications, with at most four developer seats. Eligibility also depends on employee count, revenue, funding and organization type. The key is valid for a year and can be renewed free by confirming continued eligibility. Ask PrimeTek to confirm eligibility for educational organisations or funding boundary cases before relying on Community access, because the official summaries and agreement differ there.
Paid per-developer licensing gives perpetual use of versions received during the included year of updates; renewal buys access to later versions. Current licensing restricts distributing the library for other developers to build with, which requires a separate arrangement.
Older MIT releases remain available in the archived primefaces repository. They retain their original licence, so distinguish that generation from the current component packages when following tutorials or planning a migration.
Strengths
- Current packages cover several popular UI frameworks.
- Vue components expose size, color and rotation controls.
Watch out for
- Community access depends on continuing eligibility and annual key renewal.
- Current packages cannot be redistributed as a development library under the ordinary licence.
Best for
- Projects using PrimeTek UI libraries.
- Teams migrating from older font-based PrimeIcons.
