What it does
Prince converts HTML and related web content into PDF using CSS. Its publishing features include headers, footers, footnotes, cross-references, page numbers, embedded fonts, and PDF bookmarks.
The first-document guide turns an HTML lab report into a PDF beside the source file. Add a separate print stylesheet with -s or the Windows Add CSS control, then convert again after changing the layout. Footnotes and cross-references suit longer publications. Free non-commercial output keeps a first-page Prince logo and requires links back to Prince. Licence eligibility depends on the document's use: the Desktop licence covers local self-publishing or internal work, while server use and redistribution require suitable licensing.
Strengths
- Provides publishing controls for long, structured documents.
Watch out for
- Free non-commercial use requires the Prince logo and links; a Desktop licence does not cover server automation.
Best for
- Books, reports, and publications generated from web standards
