What it does
ProFTPD is GPL-licensed FTP server software with documented configuration, standard and contributed modules, and maintained release branches.
ProFTPD uses a configuration file and modules to define the FTP endpoint and its access policy. The project distinguishes a maintenance release from release candidates. Its basic source example runs a standalone listener, allows overwriting and includes an anonymous section that denies writes. The home-directory DefaultRoot line is commented, so confinement should be chosen deliberately rather than inferred from the sample. Remove the anonymous section if it is unwanted. These are example settings, not a guarantee of a distribution package’s defaults; consult the matching authentication and protocol-module documentation for the intended clients.
