What it does
Crocotile 3D builds models from tiles selected in a texture image. Its desktop editor combines drawing, vertex and face editing, animation and scene export for pixel-art-style props and environments. Paid access uses a one-time activation key; the unregistered download restricts saving and disables export.
Add a tileset, select part of its image and click in Draw mode to place tiles. The drawing plane follows the 3D crosshair and camera angle; moving that crosshair changes where new tiles land. Press Tab for Edit mode, select faces or vertices, then move, rotate or scale them with the gizmo.
For delivery, choose File > Export Scene or Export Objects, select the objects, adjust settings and choose a filename and location. OBJ can travel with MTL and texture files; glTF and GLB can embed textures. Animations require glTF or GLB. Leave Use single mesh off to preserve hierarchy, and avoid Export Static Pose when you need the animation rather than a frozen pose.
Windows, Mac and Linux builds are available. The creator's itch.io offer is a one-time USD 24 activation-key purchase, reduced from USD 30. The unregistered download restricts saving and disables export. Activation uses the purchase email and a confirmation code, so access to that inbox matters.
Strengths
- A tileset supplies visible texture fragments as you construct the model.
- Face and vertex editing can reshape the initial tile geometry.
- Export options distinguish scene hierarchy, embedded textures and animation.
Watch out for
- The unregistered version disables export and restricts saving.
- OBJ and DAE exports cannot carry animation.
Best for
- Pixel-art-style game props and environments
- Turning an existing tileset into editable 3D geometry
