What it does
Prosperity Bank offers personal accounts to Texas and Oklahoma residents, including Simply Free Checking without a monthly service fee. Its online banking lets the primary user assign secondary access, account-specific rights and transaction limits. CardControl adds restrictions on debit-card spending.
The primary user can grant separate rights for bill payments, transfers and stopped payments, then set transaction limits or dual approval. A secondary user does not need their own banking relationship with Prosperity.
CardControl sets location, merchant and transaction-type restrictions, plus a maximum amount per transaction. Turning a card off blocks most new purchases and withdrawals, but preauthorized recurring payments may still process.
Simply Free Checking costs
Opening the account requires US$100. After that, there is no ongoing minimum balance and no monthly service or activity fee. Online and mobile banking are free, but Bill Pay costs US$5.95 a month on this account. Other checking packages have monthly charges.
Simply Free Checking is available online or at a branch to residents of Texas or Oklahoma aged 18 or older. Have two forms of identification ready: a primary document such as a driver's licence or passport, plus an accepted secondary document. The debit-card application is reviewed and approved cards arrive by mail.
The account allows unlimited cheque writing and withdrawals, but overdrafts can cost US$35 per paid item.
