What it does
Proton VPN offers device apps, a permanent free plan and paid plans with additional location selection, streaming support and filtering features.
Proton lists a free plan with one active device and randomly selected locations, while Plus adds country choice, more simultaneous devices and streaming support. Start by matching those limits to your actual use rather than treating the free plan as a trial of every paid feature.
Paid plans also include an ad and malware blocker. The account can also belong to a larger Proton subscription, which matters if you already pay for its mail or storage products.
Proton's VPN sub-policy applies its no-traffic and no-session-log description to free access as well as paid access. It nevertheless reserves the right to restrict speeds for excessive consumption on free servers. Account information is handled under the wider Proton privacy policy, so using a free VPN account does not remove that account relationship.
