What it does

Puzzle provides connected bookkeeping, cash and accrual financial statements, and optional accounting services. Bank and card feeds supply transactions for review, while its checklist organizes reconciliation and month-end checks. Paid software starts at $30 per month and comes with a 14-day trial.

Puzzle offers two ways to operate on the same accounting platform. Your team can maintain the books, or add expert review and managed accounting. Accrual tools address prepaid expenses, fixed assets and revenue; reports include cash, burn and runway.

Work through a month

The Transactions page opens on To confirm, showing the records still awaiting review. Check suggested categories and add supporting documents before confirming them. Saved views help with transaction groups you inspect regularly.

In Accounting, reconcile bank accounts, inspect the chart of accounts or open the general ledger for a chosen period. Dashboard figures lead to the related transactions, and Downloads provides statements and bank/card activity for use outside Puzzle.

The Close Checklist moves from data completeness through spending, revenue and fixed-asset review to financial-statement checks and a locked month. Work through older months in chronological order. Locking a completed period prevents changes to its historical financials.

Monthly software plans

Plan Monthly price Seats Included AI credits
Starter $30 1 25 for the lifetime of the account
Core $72 Up to 5 25 lifetime
Complete $120 Unlimited 100 per month
Scale $360 Unlimited 300 per month

Core adds cash-flow insights, a custom chart of accounts and advanced reporting. Complete includes revenue recognition, classes, departments and projects. Scale adds subledgers, backup/restore and higher-volume accounting. Annual billing is also available.

All plans have a 14-day evaluation. A selected subscription starts automatically after the free period unless cancelled. Without a selected plan, access to new reports and insights becomes limited, while previously generated trial material remains accessible.

Add help when needed

For eligible businesses with up to $10,000 in monthly expenses, Core + Expert Reviewed costs $171 per month, including software. A bookkeeper checks the work and closes the month. Full Service pricing varies with the software plan and business expenses, and assigns more of the work to the bookkeeping team.

Adding these services changes who performs the close without requiring another set of books. Migration and catch-up work are separate services.

Strengths

  • Supports cash and accrual accounting in the same platform
  • Transaction review links categories with supporting documents
  • Expert review and managed accounting use the existing books

Watch out for

  • Starter has one seat, and its AI credits do not reset monthly
  • New report access is limited without a paid plan after the trial
  • Bookkeeping, migration and catch-up work add to the software cost

Best for

  • Businesses choosing between in-house bookkeeping and monthly expert support
  • Founders who need cash-flow metrics alongside reviewable accounting records
