What it does

QI Macros is an Excel add-in for statistical process control and improvement analysis. It combines control-chart selection, histograms, capability calculations, Pareto charts, hypothesis-testing tools and reusable templates for supplied process data.

QI Macros adds process-control charts and statistical tools to desktop Excel. Select a range of measurements, then choose Control Chart Wizard from the QI Macros menu. The wizard selects a chart from the data layout and produces the chart plus an ongoing template for adding later observations. Its XbarS template accepts at most 32 data columns; a range of 250 rows or more does not produce the extra template.

The Chart Menu provides controls for process changes and recalculated limits. For recurring work, templates can update charts from their input cells, and dashboards can share an input sheet across several charts. Colleagues who only view the resulting Excel charts do not need a QI Macros licence; anyone creating or updating them does.

A single-user licence costs USD 379 as a one-time purchase, with no annual maintenance fee and no charge for technical support. Standard licensing is per user and computer; contact support about one person using two computers. Training bundles and volume licences are separate purchase choices.

The 30-day trial asks for a name and email, with an optional support phone number and no credit card. Use a supported desktop Excel version on Windows or macOS. Excel Online does not run the VBA macros required by the add-in.

Strengths

  • Adds statistical process-control and analytical tools to the existing Excel workflow.
  • Supports recurring chart templates and dashboards with shared input data.

Watch out for

  • Requires compatible desktop Excel; Excel Online is unsupported.
  • The wizard omits its ongoing template for inputs of 250 rows or more.

Best for

  • Process-improvement teams analyzing supplied operational measurements in Excel
