What it does

QuantRocket is a Python research and trading environment that runs on your own computer or server using Docker. It combines datasets, backtesting engines and broker integrations with JupyterLab. Free evaluation includes sample data; paid access and data licences extend its scope.

Keep the research environment on your infrastructure

QuantRocket runs on Linux, macOS or Windows wherever Docker is supported. Its JupyterLab interface accommodates custom scripts, data collection and indicator calculations. Zipline and Moonshot provide different backtesting routes, while the Data Library describes the available datasets.

A useful starting project is a point-in-time company screen: define the universe from historical fundamentals, then test what the rule would have selected at each date. Keeping the date of each input explicit helps avoid using information that was unavailable at the time.

Evaluation and full access

The free Learning and Evaluation option includes sample datasets and requires no credit card. It excludes both live and paper trading. Full Access has monthly and annual billing; log in or create an account and select the licence to see its price. Software and data pricing are separate sections, so include both when assessing a deployment.

Strengths

  • Custom scripts and files remain in an environment you control
  • Data collection and multiple backtesting engines share the Python workspace

Watch out for

  • Docker deployment and Python skills are needed
  • Free evaluation excludes live and paper trading

Best for

  • Python researchers maintaining their own infrastructure
  • Teams combining custom data with systematic backtests
