What it does

Quasar is a Vue-based application framework with reusable UI components and multiple build modes. Its documentation covers web applications, browser extensions, mobile and desktop delivery from a shared codebase.

Quasar combines Vue components with the tooling to develop and package an application. One project can target a browser, a progressive web app, a browser extension, mobile through Capacitor or Cordova, or desktop through Electron.

The current quickstart requires Node.js 22 or a newer long-term-support release and a supported package manager. Run pnpm create quasar@latest, choose App with Quasar CLI and answer the project questions, including TypeScript and CSS options. Move into the new folder and run pnpm run dev to open the application in a browser.

For production, quasar build creates the distributable; -m chooses a mode, such as quasar build -m pwa. Mobile modes also need a target, and the command reference distinguishes a complete package from --skip-pkg, which builds only the interface output.

Quasar is MIT-licensed and local setup needs no account. Its multiple build modes share code, but native targets still use the relevant Capacitor, Cordova or Electron toolchain.

Strengths

  • Vue components and build-mode guidance are documented together.
  • The component system includes keyboard and focus behaviour.
  • The CLI distinguishes development, production builds and platform-specific packaging.

Watch out for

  • Native targets require their corresponding mobile or desktop toolchain.
  • The current CLI setup requires Node.js 22 or a newer supported LTS release.

Best for

  • Vue teams designing interfaces for more than one delivery target
