What it does

Clapper is a GStreamer-based media player for GNOME, with a drag-and-drop playback queue and separately exposed playback libraries.

Build a viewing session by adding media to Clapper's queue, then reorder or remove items with drag and drop. The GNOME application uses GStreamer and GTK4. Its Flatpak package includes the required dependencies and codecs, which is a concrete installation choice when comparing distribution packages.

Developers can use the Clapper playback and ClapperGtk integration libraries, but the project warns their APIs are unstable before version 1.0. Its automatically built RPM packages are also labelled unstable. Distinguish those developer/build choices from simply using the player.

Strengths

  • A reorderable queue supports multi-file viewing sessions.
