What it does

Razorpay offers payment processing for Indian commerce, including Unified Payments Interface payments, cards, netbanking and international collection. Merchants can share payment links without a website or integrate checkout into an app or shop. Indian onboarding covers registered businesses and eligible individuals, with identity and bank checks before live use.

For an India-facing checkout, Razorpay brings local payment methods together with links, payment pages and developer integrations. Its international-payment products have separate activation and settlement conditions, so an Indian merchant collecting abroad should use the relevant product's settings.

A Standard Payment Link is useful for an invoice or order taken outside a shop website. In the Dashboard's Payment Products section, open Payment Links and choose Create Payment Link. Enter the currency and amount, then add a purpose, customer contact details and expiry if needed. Email and SMS delivery are optional. Standard links can also support partial payments and a minimum first instalment.

The India pricing page lists a standard 2% fee plus Goods and Services Tax, with no setup or annual maintenance charge. It separately lists 2.15% plus tax for credit-card payments through UPI. Its explanation of bank-to-bank UPI distinguishes a zero bank merchant-discount fee from Razorpay's 2% platform fee. A promoted zero-fee introductory period lasts 90 days, so it should not be treated as a permanent free plan.

Before taking real payments, sign up and complete the business and identity checks. Indian applicants choose a registered or unregistered business type and supply the appropriate Permanent Account Number, identity information and bank details. Integration work can begin in Test Mode while verification proceeds; Live Mode requires completion of the checks.

For standard domestic payments, settlement is two working days after capture, with bank holidays affecting the date. The international settlement schedule appears in the Dashboard, and the Indian account receives Indian rupees even when the customer paid in another currency.

Strengths

  • Combines UPI, cards and netbanking payment options
  • Standard payment links support expiry, reminders and partial payments
  • Test Mode lets developers prepare an integration while account verification proceeds

Watch out for

  • The published UPI platform fee still applies despite zero bank merchant-discount charges
  • International collections into an Indian account are settled in Indian rupees

Best for

  • Indian businesses researching local and international checkout options
  • Merchants collecting an order or invoice through a shareable link
