What it does

ReType Foundry publishes families including Guyot, Lavigne Nova, Laski, Kranto and Medusa. Catalog entries provide trial and PDF-specimen routes alongside the available styles and starting prices.

Guyot divides its interpretation of sixteenth-century punchcutting into Headline, Text and Press. That gives a publication a related set of forms for different reading sizes, rather than relying on one drawing scaled everywhere. On the family page, use Size and Edit for the wording under consideration, then follow Download PDF or Trial fonts for the shortlist. Laski offers a different pairing through its Sans and Slab branches.

Desktop coverage is counted by user, with up to two computers for each user and a common location for a multi-user licence. A designer or printer working on the licensee’s behalf may receive the files only for that work and must remove them afterwards. The web agreement is separate: it covers one domain within the invoiced pageview allowance and requires the supplied webfont kit.

The licence index also separates app and ebook use from extended arrangements such as games, servers and broadcasting. For a commercially sold PDF or another publication containing embedded fonts, check that specific entitlement before relying on ordinary desktop coverage.

Strengths

  • Links trials and PDF specimens from individual family listings.
  • Offers optical-size companions as well as serif and sans pairings.
  • Desktop terms permit a workstation and laptop for each licensed user.

Watch out for

  • Multi-user desktop coverage is limited to one location.
  • Web use has domain and pageview limits.
  • Reselling documents with embedded fonts requires additional coverage.

Best for

  • Editorial family comparisons
  • Publications needing text and headline companions
