What it does
RNIB Reading Services provides free DAISY audio and electronic braille borrowing for UK residents who are blind, partially sighted or have a print impairment.
Confirm eligibility first: RNIB supplies these books only to UK residents with a qualifying print impairment. You do not need to be formally registered as sight impaired. Register online for digital borrowing, then use a compatible reading device or Dolphin EasyReader. The digital account has a rolling monthly allowance of one hundred downloaded books.
Postal braille or talking books on CD and USB use the helpline route instead of digital registration alone. Some library titles lack download permission and remain postal-only, so check both the format and access route for a needed book.
Downloaded books have no return deadline, but they are for the registered reader’s private use. If preparing a book through the website, wait for that download to finish before starting the next; its ZIP contains the files for a compatible DAISY player.
