What it does

iClone is Windows software for character animation, scene staging and rendering. It combines body-motion editing, facial animation and camera controls, with exports for other 3D tools. The free Personal edition has no time limit, but its export allowance and render-use rights are restricted.

What the Personal edition permits

iClone Personal provides 30 total 3D exports, each limited to 30 seconds. After that allowance is used, 3D export stops while the other core tools remain available. Its rendered images and videos are for personal use and social sharing; commercial production requires a paid edition.

The paid choices are an iClone 8 perpetual licence or iClone 365 subscriptions. Reallusion lists iClone 8 at US$599. Paid editions remove the Personal export count and duration limits. CC character creation, AccuPOSE and certain pipeline plugins are separate purchases or bundle components.

Adjust a motion without replacing it

  1. Select a character that already has a motion clip.
  2. In the Modify panel, open the Motion tab and choose Edit Motion Layer.
  3. Move to the frame where the adjustment should start.
  4. Adjust the relevant effector points. iClone adds a Motion Layer key and blends that offset with the underlying motion.

That adjustment remains in effect until another key changes it. This is useful when a motion needs a different hand or arm position at a particular moment.

For timing changes, select a clip on the timeline, choose Speed, and drag its right edge. Stretching slows the action; shortening speeds it up. Choosing Loop instead repeats the clip as its end is extended. These controls exclude facial-animation, Sound FX and Music tracks.

Personal and subscription editions require login. A perpetual installation needs internet for installation and activation, while its Smart Content Manager has its own login requirement.

Strengths

  • Motion Director accepts game controllers and waypoints for character movement.
  • Camera controls include focal length, depth of field and camera switching.

Watch out for

  • The minimum hardware specification includes 16 GB RAM and 8 GB video memory.
  • An iClone subscription requires continuous internet access while the software runs.

Best for

  • Animators adjusting captured or library character motions
  • Creators staging character scenes before rendering or exporting them
