What it does
Recap is UK-focused crypto reporting software with a pound-denominated portfolio view, transaction checks and accountant sharing. Imports and gains previews are free after registration; downloading reports requires an annual subscription, with Basic priced at £119 including VAT.
An email address and password create the account, followed by email verification and a choice of Personal or Company. Recap then generates a twelve-word secret phrase for encrypting its data. This is the Recap account’s recovery key, not a request for your crypto wallet’s recovery phrase. Save it carefully: Recap cannot retrieve a lost copy.
The Activity screen is where transfer review becomes useful. Filter for Deposit and Withdrawal to find movements that remain unpaired. Recap combines matching transaction hashes automatically, but offers no manual pairing control. Check whether each unmatched entry really moves assets between your own accounts; an unimported wallet or a purchase mislabeled as a deposit may need correction.
Open Tax and select the year to move from the preview into detailed reports. The headline net gain concerns spot trades, so margin and futures results need the detailed report. Acquisition and disposal reports help trace costs and sale proceeds; capital-gains and income PDFs are available for record keeping and accountant review.
Basic allows 5,000 transactions across the entire imported history and includes current and earlier years’ reports. Pro costs £219 annually including VAT, removes the transaction cap and adds CSV exports. The Company plan is £349 per year before VAT, with business-specific reports and configurable accounting year ends.
The free tier also permits accountant sharing, making it possible to review the records before purchasing downloads. Choose the account type and report purpose carefully: Recap’s main product is built around UK reporting, rather than a promise to prepare every country’s return.
