What it does

Relai combines a Bitcoin wallet with one-off buying and weekly or monthly purchase plans. Bank transfers, cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay provide different funding routes. The ordinary app handles smaller purchases, while Private and Business services arrange larger or company transactions.

Check citizenship as well as residence

Relai serves a listed group of European countries, including Switzerland, Germany, France and Slovenia. Its signup guide requires citizenship in a supported country; residence there alone is insufficient. The Swiss and EU terms set an age minimum of 18 and require legal capacity.

Registration includes email confirmation, a valid passport or national identity card, a selfie, address details, tax-residence information and phone verification. Driving licences and residence permits do not meet the identity-document requirement. Swiss applicants need recent proof of address; EU applicants may also need to upload it if automated checks fail.

Place an order in the app

Tap + → Buy, enter the amount and choose a one-time purchase or a weekly or monthly schedule. Select the payment method and review the order. You can use the app wallet or choose delivery to an external Bitcoin address.

For a bank transfer, send the exact currency and amount from the IBAN added to the order, while its status is Awaiting Payment. EU customers use EUR. Their quoted price is held for 30 minutes and then refreshed at further intervals until payment arrives, cancellation or expiry. The EU guide gives an unpaid order a seven-day lifetime.

Compare the cost of the payment route

The normal Relai service fee is 1%, or 0.9% with an invite code. Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay payments add 3%. A bank transfer avoids that payment surcharge, though your bank may charge separately. The quoted Bitcoin price also contains a spread.

The first monthly savings order created in a calendar month qualifies for zero Relai service fees when its amount is CHF/EUR 50 to 100. The allowance resets on the first of the month. It does not cover one-time purchases or remove third-party charges, and other savings orders use the normal schedule.

Keep the wallet backup

Relai describes its app as a wallet whose keys you control. Setup produces a 12-word recovery phrase for restoring access. Keep that backup separately from the phone: it is part of managing this wallet, even when purchases themselves are automated.

Strengths

  • The buy flow supports individual purchases, recurring plans and an external wallet destination
  • An eligible first monthly savings order has its Relai service fee waived

Watch out for

  • Cards and supported mobile payment methods add a 3% payment charge
  • A supported residence alone does not satisfy the citizenship requirement

Best for

  • Eligible European adults who want a Bitcoin-only app with recurring purchases
