What it does

ReportServer combines dynamic-list analysis, report engines, scheduling and shared report organization. Its Community and commercial editions run on a Java application-server and database environment.

ReportServer provides a common place for ad hoc lists, scheduled reports and reports made with engines such as BIRT or JasperReports. It runs on a Java application server with an external database.

After signing in, add a relational connection under Administration > Datasources, apply its settings and use Test Connection. In report management, create a Dynamic List, choose that source and enter its SQL query. Apply the settings, open the report and select the required columns. Preview shows the first 50 rows; Excel export produces the full result. Filters and grouping can be saved in reusable report variants.

Edition Licence and renewal effect
Community Continuing free edition under AGPL-3.0
Corporate One-year licence for an assigned server ID; returns to Community when it expires
Enterprise Perpetual licence for an assigned server ID; the included first year of support and updates is renewable

The Enterprise evaluation lasts 45 days and then returns to Community automatically. Enterprise features continue after its support period ends, while Corporate's licence expiry changes the available edition.

Strengths

  • Preserves ad hoc analysis settings as reusable report variants.
  • Brings several report engines into a shared reporting server.

Watch out for

  • Deployment requires an application server and external database.
  • Commercial licences are assigned per server ID; Corporate expires back to Community.

Best for

  • Teams operating a shared server for recurring and ad hoc business reports
