What it does
The RIPE Database publishes number-resource registrations, contact details and routing-policy information for the RIPE NCC service region.
Query an address, prefix, AS number or object identifier through the web interface, REST API or Whois client. The RIPE Database publishes registration/contact objects and routing policies, with reverse-DNS and coordination uses. Match the query to the desired scope: a normal address lookup can return the smallest less-specific object when no exact object exists, while exact-match mode returns none. More- and less-specific controls expose the surrounding hierarchy. These are maintained registry declarations; compare them with observed BGP or connectivity evidence for a live network problem. Creating or updating objects belongs to a separate authenticated maintenance workflow.
Strengths
- Registration and routing-policy objects
- Web and command-line query paths
Watch out for
- Declared registry data should be compared with observed routing
