What it does
Ripple is the design system for Victorian government digital products. Ripple 2 includes Figma assets, styles and Vue component libraries for general interfaces and forms. The code is open source under Apache 2.0, but Figma assets require an access request and package installation uses a GitHub account token.
Ripple 2 has separate design and development routes. Designers create a Figma Starter account, install the VIC font, request the Ripple 2.0 Design System file and follow its Getting Started page to enable the asset library.
Developers choose between ripple-ui-core, for controls such as buttons and cards, and ripple-ui-forms, for form inputs and FormKit-based forms. The Storybook describes component properties and slots. Usage guides cover Vue, Nuxt and styles-only approaches.
Package access and intended audience
Ripple 2 packages are hosted on GitHub Packages. Installation needs a GitHub personal access token with the read:packages permission and registry configuration. Packages still on the public npm registry are described as prerelease or deprecated and should not be used for Ripple 2.
Apache 2.0 covers the code. The project is designed for approved Victorian government sites; use elsewhere is not recommended or supported. The homepage’s Ripple 1 Storybook link leads to the earlier generation, so match examples to Ripple 2 when working with its packages.
