What it does
Rosegarden is a Linux music composition environment with MIDI sequencing, notation and basic digital-audio support.
Rosegarden combines a MIDI sequencer and notation editor in a local Linux project. Its native .rg file is compressed XML. Use it when notes and sequenced parts belong in the same composition; the project describes digital-audio support as basic.
Plan the sound setup as well as installing the editor. The FAQ uses ALSA for MIDI and JACK for audio, and lists a working software synthesizer with a soundfont among runtime needs. Shift-drag across the ruler sets a repeating loop. Detailed recording and export setup depends on that audio configuration.
