What it does
Rotki combines exchange, wallet and decentralized-finance activity in a desktop portfolio application with an encrypted local database. The free edition handles up to 1,000 historical events, with subscriptions for larger histories and additional features; no online Rotki account is needed for free use.
The account created inside Rotki is a local profile. Choose its password carefully and keep a reliable copy: Rotki cannot reset the password to recover an encrypted database. Optional premium synchronization uploads a password-encrypted copy, rather than turning every local profile into a hosted account.
Add a wallet through Accounts, select the relevant chain category and use Add Account. Exchange connections sit under API Keys > Exchanges, where an API key provides the software with read-only account data. Imported events can then be filtered by date, asset and type in History > Events. Review decoding errors and add missing off-chain activity before generating totals.
For a report, open Profit & Loss Report, choose the period and check Accounting Settings. The available methods include first-in, first-out and average cost; select the method appropriate to the reporting task. The result separates profit and loss categories and provides event-level detail. Free users can keep twenty reports.
There is a particular export constraint: CSV export works for the latest report generated in the current session. Generate that report, choose Export CSV and select a destination folder before closing the application. The files can then be opened in a spreadsheet or passed to an accountant.
With Germany selected, the monthly pricing page lists Supporter at €9 for 3,000 historical events, Basic at €25 for 30,000 and Advanced at €45 for 100,000. Check the selected country and feature comparison before subscribing. The free net-worth chart displays only the most recent two weeks, even when older transactions remain in the history.
