What it does
MapTool is a free, open-source virtual tabletop with map, vision and lighting tools. Its integrated server connects players without a required hosted-service subscription.
Prepare the map and topology before the session, then test the player view rather than relying on the game-master view. MapTool is installed software, not a browser tabletop. The built-in server gives the host control, while arranging the network connection remains part of setting up a remote game.
