What it does
Safe Exam Browser combines a kiosk application and browser for assessments, with per-exam configuration, URL filters and certificate controls.
Safe Exam Browser connects an institution's assessment configuration to an LMS or exam system. Administrators choose permitted sites, applications and operating-system functions, with URL filters and certificate controls for the exam environment. Candidates should use the configuration supplied for that assessment.
The project says clients do not connect to a central SEB cloud service by default. Local logs can nevertheless contain device names, user names and page URLs. Optional SEB Server or video-conferencing connections require individual configuration, and video/audio proctoring requires candidate consent. The clients are freeware; the project separately identifies MPL source code and binary-only integrity modules included in some platform packages.
