What it does
SafePal provides a free mobile wallet, browser access and optional hardware devices. Its software wallet works without a device purchase, while S1, S1 Pro and X1 offer separate signing hardware.
SafePal offers several ways to access a wallet, so choose the signing method before comparing individual features. A software wallet keeps its keys in the app. The S1 and S1 Pro use QR exchanges with the phone; the X1 communicates over Bluetooth. Buying hardware does not automatically convert an existing software wallet into a hardware-controlled one.
The mobile wallet is free. Hardware costs extra: for example, the X1 is USD69.99 before VAT and duty. The S1 and S1 Pro have their own store prices and specifications. Blockchain transfers and services accessed inside the wallet can add charges beyond the cost of the app or device.
For a new software wallet, set the app's six-digit Security Password, then choose Software Wallet and Create a new wallet. Name the wallet and complete its recovery-word backup. Advanced settings offer 12 or 24 recovery words and an optional passphrase. Only add that passphrase if you understand that losing it can make its hidden wallet inaccessible.
The S1 takes a different route. Initialize the hardware, then choose Hardware Wallet in the app. Use the S1's Scan function on the phone's pairing code and authorize the connection with the device PIN. Finally, the phone scans the animated codes shown by the S1. The app supplies the internet connection, while the device supplies the signature.
SafePal supports Bitcoin, Ethereum and many other networks, with browser access through Chrome, Firefox and Edge extensions. Its trading and decentralized-application links are additional services. Check the selected provider's conditions and the permissions requested by an application before proceeding; a wallet connection does not establish that an investment or contract is safe.
Strengths
- QR-based S1 models and a Bluetooth X1 suit different connection preferences
- Optional fingerprint or pattern access supplements the app password
Watch out for
- Software and hardware accounts have different signing arrangements
- SafePal cannot replace lost recovery words or a forgotten hidden-wallet passphrase
- Integrated services introduce additional fees and conditions
Best for
- Comparing mobile and hardware custody within one wallet family
- S1 owners who want a phone interface for offline signing
