What it does
Sage Intacct combines a multidimensional ledger, financial reporting and intercompany consolidation with payable and close-management workflows. Finance teams can examine results by entity, customer, location or project and allocate shared costs across those dimensions. It is sold through an annual subscription scoped to the organization's modules and users.
Sage Intacct's multidimensional ledger lets finance examine results by entity, customer, location or project. That structure supports reporting without building a separate account for every analytical combination. Multi-entity tools handle consolidations and intercompany eliminations.
Split a shared cost without rebuilding the entry
After an administrator enables transaction allocations and creates the definitions, a bill can distribute a cost across departments or locations. In the transaction's Entries section, choose Show defaults, select the definition in Allocation, then Apply defaults. Each line inherits the distribution.
For an exception on one line, open Show Details > Customize Allocation, edit its split and confirm. Intacct stores that line's custom allocation for the audit history. For example, a shared utility bill can normally follow the standard office split, while one unusual line excludes a department.
Cross-entity allocations require the same base currency and access to the relevant customer or vendor. The Taxes application does not support these allocations, and lines with deferred revenue cannot use them.
Match access and modules to the job
Permissions distinguish listing a record, viewing it, editing it and running an activity. Run permission on a report includes viewing, printing and exporting it. Importing data separately requires the Company > Setup > Import data permission.
A simple Projects dimension can support reporting without the full Projects application. Tasks, project summaries and project invoicing require the additional application subscription.
Request a scoped quote for the annual subscription and implementation. Sage describes implementation as typically taking three to six months, depending on requirements. A sandbox is an additional environment, so include it in the discussion if the team needs a separate place for configuration work.
Strengths
- Ledger dimensions support analysis without a separate account for every combination
- Transaction allocations can be overridden and stored for an individual line
- Permissions distinguish report output from data import access
Watch out for
- Cross-entity transaction allocations require a common base currency
- Deferred-revenue lines cannot use transaction allocations
- Full project operations require the Projects application subscription
Best for
- Finance teams reporting across entities, departments and projects
- Organizations allocating shared costs while retaining reviewable detail
