What it does

Saleor combines commerce APIs with an administration dashboard for a separately built storefront. Product types, attributes and metadata support specialized catalogues. The BSD-licensed core can be self-hosted; Saleor Cloud offers paid production hosting and a free sandbox restricted to non-commercial use.

Saleor gives a development team a commerce engine while leaving the buying interface open to a separate web or mobile application. Product types, attributes and metadata describe the catalogue, and extension callbacks connect additional processes.

Give each channel the right delivery options

A shipping rate can be available in selected channels within a shipping zone. In the Dashboard, open Configuration > Shipping Zones, select the zone and choose Create Rate under Price Based Rates or Weight Based Rates. Supply the name and prices for the relevant channels, then Save Shipping Method. Creating rates requires the MANAGE_SHIPPING permission.

Price-based rules can use different order-value thresholds in each channel. A trade channel might therefore qualify for a delivery offer at a different basket value from the consumer store. Postal-code rules and product exclusions provide additional restrictions through the API.

Staff access and hosting

Invite a colleague through Configuration > Staff Members > Invite staff member, supplying their name and email. They receive a password-setup link. Self-hosted installations need mail delivery configured for those invitations. Assign permission groups for their work; permissions accumulate across groups, so a second unrestricted group can remove an intended channel restriction.

Saleor's BSD 3-Clause licence permits self-hosting. Cloud's continuing free sandbox is for non-commercial development, not a hosted live shop. Production packages apply monthly gross-merchandise-value allowances, overage percentages and fair API-usage rules. The Select and Volume overage rates are 0.8% and 0.4% respectively above their included sales allowances.

Moving between Cloud and self-hosting is supported, with compatible versions and data migration part of that move. Include those operating needs alongside the catalogue and storefront design.

Strengths

  • Structured products and APIs support specialized storefronts
  • Shipping rates and staff permissions can be scoped by sales channel

Watch out for

  • The free Cloud sandbox is restricted to non-commercial use
  • Cloud applies sales-volume and API-usage rules; hosting changes require data migration planning

Best for

  • Commerce engineering teams building decoupled storefronts
